Ivy Wars
Forget Star Wars; forget The Hunger Games. I’m engaged in an epic battle with a most insidious foe: English Ivy. We successfully removed it from our side yard a few years ago, but neglected to finish the job properly around the back of the house—and now we’re paying for it. It completely enveloped a yew...
Four Eyes
I have come to the sad realization that I REQUIRE visual help when I’m at the computer. I got my glasses a few years ago during my employment at the “job from Hell”. I was convinced that the stress of the job was making my eyes bad. So after I lost my job, I stopped...

Suddenly Insomnia
It all started a few days ago when Gabriel woke up in the middle of the night as he is sometimes wont to do. After getting him settled, I crawled back in bed only to realize that I was unable to fall back asleep… for the rest of the night. Exhausted, I barely made it...
Resurfaced Stairs
A couple of years ago, I resurfaced the stair risers going up to the second floor with some 1/4″ oak panels. The riser surface was painted white and I couldn’t manage to keep them from getting impossibly marred up with black kick marks. Plus there are knots in the wood that bleed through the paint....
